KUCHING: School children should not only study hard but be active in extra co-curricular activities as well.
Assistant Minister of Youth Development Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said they should not only focus on achieving academic excellence.
“They should be active in sports and other activities that can prepare them for future challenges,” he said at the closing of Kanga Under-11 cricket finals at SK Tabuan yesterday.
Abdul Karim said pupils should be made aware that employers vet many aspects of a candidate’s application before hiring.
On the cricket competition, which was organised by the Sarawak Cricket Association and State Education Department, he said it was one way to spot talents.
“I am surprised to see so many schools participating. It shows there is already awareness of cricket among school children here.
“I hope SK Tabuan and all participating schools would continue to develop this sport.”
SK Tabuan emerged champion this year.
Also present were Sarawak Cricket Association president Awang Mahyan Awang Mohammad and SK Tabuan headmistress Aluyah Salleh. -TheBorneoPost
